The amount of Universal Credit has never been set against any real costs. No independent evidence. Just a political decision - and nobody is properly or regularly checking it against the cost of essentials. The government now has a chance to change that. 

We're calling on the UK Government to establish an independent process for setting Universal Credit, one that looks at what food, heating, travel and essentials actually cost.
